Introduction
The inaugural Pearl of Africa Music Awards
(PAM Awards) function was held in 2003. It marked the beginning
of a new era in which artistes received recognition for their
work. This occasion saw 23 artistes walk away with a glass
accolade in the various genres of music.
The awards programme has consequently become
annual and is the most prestigious social event of the year.
For three years running, the awards have been jointly sponsored
by Celtel Uganda and Bell lager, a partnership that has brought
increased visibility for both brands owing to the media attention
the awards have attracted throughout this period. An artiste
who gets rewarded with a PAM Award is destined for a prosperous
career as she or he commands more attention from all stakeholders
involved.
As the awards programme continues to prosper,
the programme is striving to cover all corners of the country
by holding regional launches in the main towns of the country
to ensure that there is full representation of talents throughout
Uganda.
